The I Heart Market is a family market that takes place once a month, usually on the first Saturday of that month. It happens at the Moses Mabhida stadium in Durban. Although Lindi had been to the market before, it was quite a few years back and in a different location; and I for one had never been to the market at all. We had regularly spoken about it but were both always so busy, and so, with the new year in full motion and school out of sight, we literally had no excuse this month. Thus, on the 9th of January 2016 I'm sure you know exactly where we headed. V.Z xx My initial impression of the market was that it was much smaller than I had anticipated and there weren't as many stalls as I had hoped, however all doubts soon vanished when I stepped inside the large white marquee. There were many small stalls inside the marquee, but where a stand lacked in size, it was definitely made up for in personality and hospitality. The owners of each stall were very friendly and helpful, and the majority of their booths were independent and self made businesses.
The I Heart Market provides a platform for locals to showcase their businesses and to do so in an environment were everyone is chilled out and happy. A majority of the stalls sold clothing as many boutiques use the market as an opportunity to expand and get more coverage. I would say the second largest market was definitely the food stalls: from a variety of iced coffees and smoothies to homemade savouries; delicious (& colourful) macaroons and chocolates (which Lindi and I bought, and although overpriced were definitely worth it). Overall the market was a good experience and I would definitely go back again to make a day out of it, and you really can because it starts at 10am and finishes early at 2pm. Overall, the Durban crowd was friendly and the weather was in our favour, but don't worry if on the day you go the weather is bad- the marquee is always there so they've got you covered... (excuse the pun, hehe.) Although a lot of the items were overpriced, the quality was pretty great, so this 2016, try make it your mission to at least try it out. V.Z xx
