As you will soon discover, I love everything and anything beauty related, and I am a fan of trying out new creations. I have made my own foundations, face powder, eyebrow gel and face masks. You name it, and I probably have tried to make it. Confession: They don't always go as planned. . .
I can confidently conclude that I am a DIY beauty expert, well sort of. That being said, here is a recipe, Vimbai discovered and I tried, for a DIY coconut oil face scrub. I mean, why spend all that money when one can simply create it at home. The scrub not only works wonders in making the skin feel silky smooth by removing excess dead skin cells but it also tastes really yummy. On the plus side, it is eco-friendly and made of all natural products. (My Geography teacher would be proud.)
DIY COCONUT OIL FACE SCRUB
Makes about 2/3 cups
2 Tablespoons coconut oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 drops lemon
1tsp Baking Soda
1/2 c sugar
In a medium bowl, mix coconut oil, vanilla extract, lemon and baking soda until well combined. Stir in sugar. Gently apply onto your face. You can use your fingers or a brush.
Make sure to cleanse your face before putting the scrub on. Face wash will do, the aim is to remove all the excess dirt and sweat off your face.
Once you have applied the scrub, massage your face using gentle circular motions. The face mask will begin to feel very sticky after a few moments.
After you apply the mask you will most likely have left over scrub. I would recommend throwing it away into the bin (not the sink because the coconut oil will harden and clog the drain), because the lemon and baking soda will cause a reaction leading to major breakouts.
*Side Note : Although the scrub left my skin feeling amazing, I did break out in a slight rash the next day. So be careful when applying the mask and insure you do not leave it on for too long. 3-5 mins. should do the job.
I could not resist taking a posed photo. My skin was looking and feeling so good.
